Tsongo Lake
Tsongo Lake, at an altitude of 12,400 ft, is the prime attraction for the people visiting Gangtok. The ethereally beautiful alpine lake is 38 km from Gangtok and takes about 2 hours by car. A winding road takes you to Tsongo Lake close to the Tibet border through rugged mountain terrain and sharp cliffs. The lake derives its water from the melting snows of the surrounding mountains that encircle the lake. In winter, the placid lake remains frozen in the snow, while in late spring, the flower bloom adds a riot of colours around the lake. A recently built Ropeway ride here added a feather in the cap, which gives you stunning panoramic views of the snow ranges and valleys.
